Are you a writer? We’re looking for you…
The January New Writing Series “Foundation” is seeking submissions from writers for its upcoming play festival.
Submissions are being accepted on a rolling basis. Plays must be new works, never before produced or published.
Submissions focusing on experiences of people from the African diaspora should be sent in a PDF document via email along with a resume and brief cover letter outlining why this piece is important to our community. Plays should be no longer than 1 hour in length (60 pages maximum). Pages should be numbered with the playwright’s last name on each page. Pieces written by people of color are highly considered.
The Black Lady Theatre will choose up to four short plays to produce as rehearsed readings during the month of March. The plays will be directed by new up-and-coming directors and will be performed by a select cast of actors.
There is no fee associated with the submission of the plays and writers can submit up to two pieces each. Writers will not be compensated for their contribution but it is a great opportunity for exposure and development.
Writers can submit their work from anywhere in the world, but writers with ties to NYC/Brooklyn will be highly considered.
Submit to firstname.lastname@example.org – include in the subject line “SUBMISSION: FOUNDATION – YOUR NAME”
Writers of selected showcase pieces will be contacted via telephone or email. By submitting your short play for consideration in Foundation: A New Writing Series, you agree that you own all rights to the submitted piece of writing and will not seek any compensation, monetary or otherwise in connection with the production of your writing. Submission into this contest releases any rights by the playwright or any publishing company and assumes the playwright agrees that The Black Lady Theatre may produce the short play without penalty, for the intended purpose, regardless of any outstanding contracts or third party arrangements.
